A Medium of Open Discussion

Submission Guidelines

The Forum is published monthly.

Next issue: February 2012 (Volume 49, Issue 5)
Deadline for submissions is February 9, 2011.

Photographs and art are welcomed. Before submitting text, request The Forum’s style sheet. Submissions received after the deadline or exceeding word limits (campus news: 1500 words; letters: 500 words; opinion: 2000 words) may not be published.

Our standard references are the AP (Associated Press) Stylebook and Webster’s New World College Dictionary. Please get a copy of the current AP Stylebook and familiarize yourself with it before the deadline approaches. The AP Stylebook covers most questions of usage. The Forum’s style sheet contains additional entries and adjustments to AP style. Please refer first to the AP Stylebook, then to The Forum’s style sheet.

If you’ve already contacted a member of our staff, please send your contribution directly to them. Unsolicited materials, op-eds, press releases, letters to the editors, etc., can be sent via e-mail to editor@uwmcforum.com. If you are a staff writer (enrolled in COM 104), you must submit your articles via Google Docs.

Outside contributors, please submit articles as word documents (note that this has changed from the past). Submit images as JPGs. Images should be at least 600 dpi.

We strongly encourage writers to think about how their story will appear on the page–think photos, graphics, and sharp headlines. Reporters who supply photos and graphics will probably get a better treatment on the layout.
